Saint Pierre church proudly stands in the heart of the village of Vic sur Cère. Destroyed, rebuiIt, enlarged and renovated, the church has undergone many transformations over the years making a visit extremely interesting. Don’t hesitate to venture inside!
The original church dates back to the 11th century although today the only parts of the original building that remain are the 56 sculpted Romanesque modillions that support the cornice. The church was destroyed in 1261 in an uprising of farmers from the village of Falgoux led by the Lord of Apchon. Rebuilding of the church began in 1265 and the bell tower you see today built above the Romanesque chancel dates from this period. The nave and side aisles were added in the 14th and 15th centuries. Further modifications were made to this part in 1903 with the addition of a neo-Gothic style gallery and sacristy. In 1754 the nave was enlarged, the sacristy rebuilt and renovation work was carried out on the roof of the nave and bell tower. The most recent renovation work was carried out in 2008/2009.
