Hike The Lebréjal plateau
This walk includes a difficult climb and descent through the deep slopes of the Brezons valley. The descending path trough loose stones where great car must be taken. No mountainbiking possible.
Description détaillée Informations complémentaires
D - DEPART: At SAINT-MARTIN-SOUS-VIGOUROUX, from the church Square (gothic church mit beautiful wall paintings dating from the 15th century inside). Follow the D990 in the direction of Pierrefort.
Cross the bridge and follow the road for 200m.Turn left at the signpost to LA VOLPILIERE.
1 - After 200 m take a path on the right under oak trees and ashes. Ascend to find an other and larger path. Take right and follow the path until le village BOUSSAC.
2 - In the village take the left road for 200 m, then a sandy path at left until a junction. Take le left path, cross a meadow and arrive at the cross of IZERGUES.
View to the Cantal mountains.
ALTERNATIVE of 4 km until VIGOUROUX, less strenuous:
Before IZERGUES take the path to the right which arrives at BARRES. Continue on the tarred road and cross CHAPUS. Follow the road until LIADIERES. Arrived at the D 39, take left, cross the bridge over the Brezons and ascend to LA VERGNETTE. At the entrance of the village turn left. The path climbs up until the village of VIGOUROUX (observe the Vigouroux castle dating from the 17th century).
3 - At the crossroads leave a path to the right and then to the left. Continue to the crossroads. Descend by the branch to the left and, by a grassy lane to reach the river Brezons. Cross it. Follow to the right to come out on to the road at the village of LESCURE (castle dating partly from the 12th century).
4 - Cross the road and take the rising path, past a bam, following a hedge of ash trees the path continues under a coppice until BEAULIEU.
5 - Climbing to the left, arrive in a meadow. Go right, then left with difficult climbs through the bends in the beech woods.
6 - Cross a pasture and follow a rising and difficult path and later between stone walls until VIGOUROUX at the church square (observe the Vigouroux castle dating from the 17th century).
7 - At the church place turn left. Take the path towards LEBREJAL. After a crossing follow a large path, cross the fence and wall on your left. After a water trough go right along a barbed wire fence until the road and the orientation table of LEBREJAL.
8 - Continue on the road to the left, then after 200m go left until the road at the high cross.
9 - Go down to the left bordering a meadow until the rarred road above a barn. Follow the road going down. 300m after the information board take the path to the left to Saint-Martin.
